Our College Participated in the 2018 INFORMS Annual Meeting Phoenix and Conducted Overseas Talent Recruitment

      From November 3 to November 8, 2018, Dean Zhou Dequn, Professor Xu Haiyan, and Lecturer He Shawei of the College of Economics and Management of NUAA, went to Phoenix, Arizona to participate in the 2018 INFORMS Annual Meeting Phoenix, and recruited overseas talents. INFORMS annual meeting is the most influential meeting in the global operations and management sciences field. This year, the number of participants reached 7,000, with more than 80 special forums. The theme of this year's meeting is “Smart City and Sustainable Communities”. 
On November 4th, the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the meeting and heard a report entitled “Riding Technology Waves: Perspectives and Opportunities for Operations Research”. In the special forum, Professor Xu Haiyan gave a lecture titled “The Meditation Strategy of the Third Party for the Hospital-patient Conflict Based on Option Prioritization”, and Dr. He Shawei gave a lecture titled “Coalition Analysis of Basic Hierarchical Graph Model in Solving Climate Change Disputes”. These two reports attracted a number of participants and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions. Moreover, the delegation also heard a wide range of sub-forum reports on different topics.

      During the meeting, the college launched a recruitment activity for outstanding overseas talents. As the world's largest on-site recruitment platform for management science and engineering, the INFORMS meeting brings together new PhD graduates and other relevant talents from leading international business schools such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford, and the London School of Economics and Political Science. This is the first attempt by our college to go international and to conduct overseas recruitment on such platforms. Prior to the meeting, our college had contacted a number of job seekers through pre-publication, prepared relevant materials, and interviewed some job seekers. Dean Zhou Dequn gave a detailed introduction to the rapid development of NUAA and the College of Economics and Management in recent years and their achievements in internationalization. He sincerely expressed his enthusiasm for talents. On behalf of the College Professors Committee, Professor Xu Haiyan introduced the college's policy on the career development of young teachers. As a newcomer to the university, Dr. He Shawei introduced the young teachers’ experience on behalf of the college and answered some questions that job seekers are generally concerned about. The delegation carefully answered some of the concerns of the job seekers and invited everyone to participate in the next session of Chang Kong Forum of NUAA.

      During the meeting, the delegation met with some well-known overseas scholars, such as Professor Roman Slowinski, the editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Operational Research, Professor Ben Lev, the editor-in-chief of Omega magazine, and Professor Shi Jianjun from Michigan University. These scholars were invited by the college to visit and exchange with the college and develop a friendly relationship with the college. During the meeting, Dean Zhou also communicated with Professor Qiu Guanghua of the University of Pennsylvania on the preparation of the INFORMS Service Science Conference held in our school next year.

      The College of Economics and Management of NUAA has students all over the world, the delegation met with many alumni who are currently teaching or studying for doctoral degrees in overseas universities. The delegation introduced alumni to the development of the college and shared with them the time spent in NUAA. Dean Zhou wished them all working and studying abroad well, and invited them to come back to the college.

      It is understood that next year's INFORMS Annual Meeting will be held in Seattle, Washington, USA from October 20 to 23, 2019.
